OUR TRAILS // JOURNAL 04

"When you are running Western States – that trail will talk to you. But you've got to listen to it."

For SALTY Journal 04 we ran into a small editorial problem. The My Trails section usually lets one athlete guide us through one place. Clean. Simple.

That approach fell apart pretty quickly here.

Emily Hawgood and Paul Lind are both tied to the same trail system so tightly that separating the stories would feel like cutting a map in half.

Paul has been part of the Western States ecosystem since 1974. Fan, runner, coach, starter. He knows the course the way you know something you've spent fifty years paying attention to.

Emily has turned those same Auburn trails into her training ground, finishing in the Western States top ten several years running.

Two different generations. Same terrain. Same conversation with the trail.

The full story is in Journal 04.

If you read this far, the SALTY Trail Club is probably your sort of place.
