Last year, the SKY was already fairly audacious. Then we asked Dani Jung to have a look at it. This may not have been the most civilised decision.
For 2027, the SKY gets an updated course designed to use more of what Schnalstal does exceptionally well: steep climbing, technical descending, serious altitude and long stretches of terrain where the word “trail” becomes increasingly open to interpretation. Roughly 35 kilometres. Around 2,600 metres of climbing. A high point above 3,200 metres.

NOTE: TRAIL HEAD MEMBERS have already included the FLEX Option without paying the 20 € fee.
The course runs through high alpine terrain, and high alpine terrain occasionally has opinions about the route. Short-notice course changes are possible. Any changes will be communicated before race day, at the race briefing, and via newsletter — so make sure you're on the list and show up on time.
A medical certificate is required to participate. Download it here, fill it in, and either upload it during registration or email it to sat@saltytrailrunning.com. This is not optional.
Registration opens Thursday, July 29, 2027, and runs until Saturday, July 31, 2027 at 6:30 a.m. at the start/finish area. Race packs must be collected on-site. Mandatory kit check included.
Aid stations are stocked with the best intentions and a realistic understanding of mountain logistics. Individual items may run out. When they do, alternatives will be available. Plan accordingly and don't build a race strategy around the gummy bears at kilometre 14.
The race takes place in a protected mountain environment. Waste disposal is only permitted at the designated aid stations, using the bags provided. Bring your own cup. Leave everything else as you found it.
